"Seeking psychotherapy is an important gesture of self-care. You've already begun to recover when you pick up the phone or email for help. Already, you've acted on the idea that you're worth caring for."
Psychotherapy is Jamey’s life’s work, complemented by his passions as an artist and writer. As a therapist, he takes an active and engaged approach, ensuring that clients feel supported rather than speaking into a “blank screen.” Each session is centered on the client’s pain, challenges, and personal questions. His specialties include men’s issues, life transitions, relationships, depression, anxiety, creativity, and psychological obstacles related to personal growth.
Before becoming a therapist, Jamey was a literary scholar and professor of English, teaching in New York, New Jersey, and Vermont. Through this experience, he gained firsthand insight into the pressures of academic life, the complexities of intellectual ambition, and the joys and struggles of artistic practice. As a published poet and active sculptor, he understands the emotional landscape of creativity. His students’ emotional struggles ultimately inspired him to transition into a career focused on healing. He pursued additional degrees and training, becoming a licensed psychotherapist in Los Angeles before returning to Brooklyn in 2020. He is now licensed in New York, California, Texas, and New Jersey, working with clients both virtually and in person in Park Slope.
Jamey’s background in literature also informs his therapeutic practice. Great works of literature offer profound psychological insights—Dante, for instance, distinguishes between suffering that merely torments and suffering that teaches, a concept later echoed in Freud’s Mourning and Melancholia. By integrating literature and psychoanalysis, he helps clients uncover deeper meaning in their experiences.
His approach is collaborative, helping clients identify and overcome the forces that hold them back. With skilled, compassionate guidance, he provides the necessary support for meaningful growth and transformation.
The inaugural edition of the Trial Lawyer's Journal set a new standard for law journal publications. With limited ads and one-of-a-kind content, it was created to celebrate wins both in and outside the courtroom.
