"You play all these different roles in the client’s life, and your goal ultimately is to make them whole—not only financially, but physically."
Michael “Mike” Cohan is a dedicated New York litigator and the founder of Cohan Law Firm, based in New York City. He handles a wide range of cases, including car accidents, trip and falls, construction accidents, wrongful death matters, nursing home neglect, and product liability cases. Michael is known for his profound understanding of the pain and suffering his clients endure and his commitment to achieving justice on their behalf.
Michael’s legal journey began with a passion for argumentation and a competitive spirit. After earning his Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law, where he served as a member of the Law Review and received six CALI awards for excellence, he worked at a large law firm specializing in mass tort and asbestos litigation. During this time, he represented injured plaintiffs in tort litigation, arguing motions and attending hearings in courts across the United States. He became well-versed in federal court practice, including all district courts of New York and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
Seeking to make a more personal impact, Michael founded Cohan Law Firm, where he has successfully settled millions of dollars for his clients. He prides himself on constant client communication and understanding his clients’ needs, while being determined and tenacious when pursuing their cases against adversaries. Throughout his career, Michael has fought in the courtroom against large multinational corporations on behalf of injured workers in the United States. Notably, he helped create international law by successfully arguing that Canadian corporations distributing toxic products to the U.S. could be subject to suit and must produce documents in U.S. litigation.
Michael’s dedication to his clients and his relentless pursuit of justice have earned him recognition in the legal community. He has been elected by his peers to be a member of the prestigious “Super Lawyers,” a designation awarded to the top 2.5% of attorneys within the personal injury practice. He has also been designated as a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum for the settlements and awards obtained on behalf of injured clients.
The inaugural edition of the Trial Lawyer's Journal set a new standard for law journal publications. With limited ads and one-of-a-kind content, it was created to celebrate wins both in and outside the courtroom.
